Harry Everett Smith is a legend. For a short period in the 80’s, he lived in the Breslin Hotel, which is now Ace Hotel New York. This photo was taken by Allen Ginsberg in Smith’s then-apartment, and the brilliant caption was handwritten by Ginsberg at the bottom of the frame.
With the permission of Rani Singh at the Harry Smith Institute, we were able to get our hands on the photo and blow it up to 4x4’ to be installed in the Ace NYC lobby as a tribute to Smith. With the help of our friend Johnne Eschleman, the photo was recently installed and Ginsberg’s handwriting was mimicked below the photo directly onto the wall. Nice!
Many thanks to Ace NYC and Rani Singh for letting us have this opportunity to do this project. We love Harry and Ace!
